Let's Begin!
If you are in a class then your email must use a web page instead of your home PC. Those not in a class can use their home email and an email reader such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.
Task one - Check your email account
You need to check your email account and remember the
web page address, user name and
password. If you don't have or can't remember them, you need to make a new account and we recommend
Gmail.
Keep this page open while you check your account.
Either open a new tab in your web browser or a new browser window. In the new tab or window, go to the web page for your email account and log on.
While there, deal with any email messages you have.
Interactive web pages
The course uses interactive web pages. Anyone can read them, but only participants can take full advantage of all the course has to offer.
Permission to participate is only given to students enrolled with Oldham Lifelong Learning. To enrol, contact them and check if places are available.
Task two - Request permission to participate
We are going to use an interactive feature of the course to send an email message for permission to participate.
Your tutor will tell you the address to send the email to. Keep the address in your email account
Contacts list or
Address Book.
The request will be processed by computer, so you must use include the information below.
Message subject: [WIKI] Participation Request
Message body: NAME: <Title>, <First name>, <Surname> (eg. "Mr. Brian Hewitt")
CLASS: <Class code> (eg. "C100511")
CENTRE: <Centre name> (eg. "Oakbank")
Angled brackets <like this> mean your own details and an example is shown for each. You can include a message if you want to.
This completes the email tasks. You should now go back to the "Home" page to continue the course.
